Jani alias Huttu Ponku

FARM HOST, REINDEER HERDER, MEAT CUTTER AND "BLAZING SALMON" MASTER

Jani has spent his whole life both on the shores of the Kitis-joki River and in the roadless expanses of wilderness backwoods, absorbing the precious teachings of his father and other older reindeer herders. After finishing comprehensive school, Jani studied reindeer husbandry at Kittilä's legendary school for the purpose, where he also got acquainted for the first time with the professional cutting and processing of reindeer meat. In his fiancée's view, Jani is skilled with his hands as well as being particularly good at grilling steaks and frying salmon over an open flame. Jani is also in charge of the training of the farm's sled bucks, and many a sunny spring day is spent in the wetlands close to home training the animals in how to pull a sled. If one does not meet the man taming his sled reindeer, the next most likely situation is to find him at the lead sleigh on a reindeer safari, at the helm of his snowmobile, or in the cabin of his tractor ploughing the yards of Luosto cottage-dwellers.

Anu alias Vuohcu Pávlosa Veijo Anu

FARM HOSTESS, REINDEER HERDER, TALE-TELLER AND "YOIKER"

Anu achieved her whole length in the southernmost Sámi village of Finland, place called Vuotso. Like her husband,  Anu’s life has always been tighty related to reindeers. When Anu was a small kid her father designed an earmark for her daugher's reindeer. Since there the girl has carved the sign for paper, orange skin and reindeer calve's ears. She also trained couple of sleigh reindeer consulted by her father and drove the school ways by her own reindeer taxi. Reindeers took plenty of her spare time and rest of the time she and her cousin spend by performing joik- chanting to Lapland visitors in the hotels around the ski centers. Not too surprising, Anu can still be found joiking amongst the customers or leading the reindeer caravan in the forest.

Minja alias Mämmi

THE FAMILY'S YOUNGEST REINDEER HERDER AND ENERGETIC SIXTH CLASS PUPIL

Minja is active in most everything. She may not always have the best memory, but she does have excellent social skills. Minja frequently accompanies her mother on "yoik" concert occasions, beating on a big reindeer hide drum, and occasionally she enthusiastically breaks into song herself in the reindeer farm's kota, following the lessons learnt from her mum. On days off, Minja may be found sitting in the lead sled of a queue of reindeer or helping with the arrangements for the customers' sleigh rides. In the calf-neutering and reindeer round-up enclosure, Minja is of great help to Finland's reindeer husbandry industry. However, you're most likely to find Minja where there are also plenty of people from around the world: after all, this girl loves story-telling, relaxed banter with others and performing in front of groups.
